Opportunities for children who attend Indianapolis Public Schools

A Hockey Opportunity Without the Hockey Price Tag

Hockey can be one of the most expensive youth sports. Families may face hundreds of dollars in equipment costs before paying for league registration, ice time, coaching and travel. As children advance, the total cost can reach thousands of dollars per season.

Our Hockey House is different. We are a donation-funded youth development nonprofit that gives children the chance to begin and continue developing without asking parents to carry those hockey costs

Ways Your Child Can Participate

​IPS After-School Programming

Participating schools select students for their school group and provide transportation to and from the program. The school will share the schedule, permission requirements and transportation details with selected families.

Community Hockey Basics

IPS children who are not selected for a school group are still welcome to express interest in Community Hockey Basics or another available IPS program time. Hockey Basics is open to ages 5–16 and welcomes every skill level.

Player Development

Player Development is the next step for returning participants who have advanced through Hockey Basics or school programming and are ready to begin practicing in hockey equipment. Participation is by invitation and is based on readiness, attendance, effort, attitude and commitment.

What Our Hockey House Provides

  • Ice time and instruction

  • Skates, helmets and the program equipment needed to begin

  • Hockey equipment for selected Player Development participants

  • Coaching and a clear path toward additional development

  • Communication and support when a family barrier could prevent participation

What Parents and Guardians Provide

  • A completed interest form

  • The required registration forms and signed participation waiver

  • Clear communication about attendance and family needs

  • Transportation for community and Sunday Player Development sessions

  • Support for your child’s commitment, effort and respectful attitude

  • Transportation Support

  • Families are responsible for transportation to Community Hockey Basics and Sunday Player Development. Selected Player Development participants who attend at least five of the six Sunday sessions may receive gas gift cards to help with transportation expenses.

  • If transportation is the reason your child may not be able to participate, contact us. When possible, we will explore available options, including family coordination or possible carpooling. Assistance depends on available resources, but we would rather know about the barrier than have a child quietly miss an opportunity.

The Future Team Pathway

Our Hockey House plans to build a high-school development team and expects the first development group to focus primarily on middle-school-aged participants. Final ages and placements will be shaped by the interest forms we receive, player readiness and available resources.

For selected, committed team-pathway players, our goal is to provide everything needed to train: ice time, equipment, coaching, summer programming, transportation support, meal assistance when needed and Our Hockey House clothing and team gear.

Participation this year matters. Attendance, commitment, attitude and coachability will help determine future invitations.
