Player Development

The Next Step for Returning Players

Player Development is for children who have advanced through a previous Our Hockey House Hockey Basics or school program and are ready to begin practicing in hockey equipment.

This is an invitation-based opportunity for participants who want to continue learning and have demonstrated the readiness, effort and attitude needed for the next stage.

Winter 2027 Schedule

Player Development will meet for six Sundays: the final two Sundays in January and all four Sundays in February. Exact session times and participant information will be sent with invitations.

Fully Supported Positions

  • Selected participants receive a fully supported position that includes:

  • Ice time

  • Hockey equipment

  • Coaching

  • Structured practices and introductory game development

Families are responsible for transportation. Participants who attend at least five of the six sessions may receive gas gift cards to help with transportation expenses. Families facing a greater transportation barrier should contact us so we can explore available options.

How Players Are Selected

During the December returning-school session, and first two weeks of Hockey Basics, coaches will evaluate potential participants. Participants from previous player developments will be invited automatically.

Selection and future invitations consider:

  • Readiness to begin practicing in equipment

  • Attendance and dependability

  • Commitment and willingness to learn

  • Effort and coachability

  • Respectful attitude and teamwork

Looking Toward Summer and the Future Team

Children participating in this winter’s Hockey Basics and school programs may be invited into fully supported summer or future Player Development opportunities. Current Player Development participants may also be invited back based on commitment and attitude.

Our Hockey House is working toward forming a high-school development team as early as next year, as well as recreational leagues. We expect the initial pathway to focus primarily on middle-school-aged players, although final ages will depend on interest and readiness.

Our goal for selected team-pathway players is to provide the training and support needed to participate, including equipment, ice time, coaching, summer programming, transportation assistance, meal assistance when needed and Our Hockey House clothing and team gear.
