Give Students the Chance to Discover Something New

 

For many students, an Our Hockey House program is their very first chance to step onto the ice—and it can be the beginning of something much bigger.

​

We partner with Indianapolis Public Schools to give children a welcoming, encouraging place to try skating and hockey. Students have fun, build confidence, discover what they’re capable of and they just may find a sport—and a community—they want to keep coming back to.

The Financial Value to Families

Traditional hockey participation can require families to purchase hundreds of dollars in equipment and then pay for registration, ice time, coaching and travel. Those costs can reach thousands of dollars as a player advances.

Our Hockey House removes those entry costs. We provide ice access, coaching and the equipment students need for the program. Children selected for Player Development receive the hockey equipment, ice time and coaching needed for that stage as well.

 

A Path Beyond the Initial Program

Our goal is not only to offer a memorable day on the ice. We are creating a progression for students who show interest, commitment and readiness:

  • Introductory school programming or Community Hockey Basics

  • Continued skill development

  • Invitation-based Player Development

  • Summer development opportunities

  • A planned high-school development team for IPS

  • Long-term mentorship, education and post-high-school opportunities

 

Future Support for Committed Players

As the team pathway develops, selected players may receive equipment, summer programming, Our Hockey House clothing and team gear, transportation support and  meal assistance when needed.

We also want young people to see possibilities beyond playing. Long-term opportunities may include mentorship, leadership development, employment within the program, educational connections and help identifying relevant scholarship opportunities. These opportunities will depend on each student’s age, commitment, readiness and available partnerships.

Teachers and school leaders often recognize the child who needs a place to belong, responds to hands-on learning or may thrive when someone introduces them to an unexpected opportunity.

If you have already participated in one of our programs and know of kids that would like to try playing ice hockey with equipment...please direct their family fill out our interest form, contact us for flyers with information to hand out about the opportunities, or contact us to discuss how we can help individual kids.

  • Spaces are limited

  • The school coordinates permission forms and communicates program details to families.

  • Our Hockey House provides programming, ice time, and required program equipment to selected schools.

  • The final January–February school format will be shared with selected schools and may include one eight-week experience or two four-week sessions, depending on scheduling and the number of schools we are able to serve.

  • Please fill out your interest form before September 15th 2026.  

  • Families may also complete the general interest form for our FREE Community Hockey Basics class in January/February at Holliday Park Ice Rink and future opportunities (parents will need to drive their kids to practices but gas cards may be available to help with transportation needs).

  • If you have already participated in one of our programs, please contact michelle@ourhockeyhouse.org for opportunities in December, and for information to share with your kids that have expressed interest in playing hockey to earn free scholarships to our 6 week player development program (Jan/Feb 2027). 

 

 

Our Future Home

Our Hockey House is working toward a dedicated facility with reliable ice access and space for player development, mentorship and off-ice support. We hope to begin programming there as early as 2028. Until then, we will continue using Holliday Park Ice Rink and other appropriate locations to keep students moving forward.
